Course Contest __________________ Profile - Limu.com __________________ Limu.com http://www.limu.com/ Limu.com has created a global knowledge marketplace where you can buy and offer online courses. Where teaching and learning is live, online and interactive. Real life teachers, students, professionals and dedicated hobbyists offer courses in over 300 categories. Course offerings are quite diverse - here's an idea of what you can learn: - Linear Algebra - Living and Working in Italy - Dental Anthropology - Paragliding in the Alps - Shopping Guide in Hong Kong - Finding a Flat in London - Creative Pattern Cutting for Fashion Learning at Limu is based on teacher and students meeting and interacting live and online in Limu's browser based virtual classroom. From voice chat, text chat and a virtual drawing board, the classroom offers you all a traditional classroom would and more. The course classroom is accessible at all times outside course session hours when you can post messages in the forum or download files from the course library. In true marketplace fashion, once you've decided on a course, you'll deal directly with the instructor to book the date and time for the session to begin, as well as the pricing and payment terms. If you are unable to find what you want in Limu's offered courses database, you can post a "wanted topic" in Limu's "wanted topic" database and wait for teachers to submit an offer to you in response to your "wanted topic" posting. At Limu you can teach any subject or skill that you have mastered, whether academic, professional or hobby-related. You can offer to teach one or several courses in one or more subjects. Limu's course registration wizard will guide you through the course registration process, enabling you to structure a course into several sessions, to set your proposed course fee, to upload course materials and to customise the virtual classroom according to the requirements of your course. You may also be interested in the Limu referral program: if you know people who you think would make good online teachers in any topic or subject ranging from the academic to hobbies and personal interests, or who are simply interested in learning about something online, you can refer them to Limu and earn Limu points that you can then use to pay for courses that you book at Limu. The site is available in five languages: English, Dutch, Spanish, French and Italian. Do take the time to go through the online Tour or try out the demo classroom - I think you'll be impressed! ______________________________________________________ BONUS! Lesson of the Day sponsored by moneyXperts.com! ______________________________________________________ Learning how to invest is easy - all it takes is time, patience, and the willingness to learn. Here is just a small sample of the types of lessons we offer on our website - enjoy! <> <> <><> <> <><> <> <><> <> <><> <> <><> <> When you are new to investing, you need to set some simple, modest goals. Instead of worrying about how you're going to play the markets, instead focus on the first task at hand: saving enough money and paying off your debt. Once all of your debt is eliminated, it is time to get serious about becoming a successful investor. We highly recommend that you make it a goal to save 10% of your annual income before taxes. If you make $30,000 a year, that means you should be putting $3,000 a year into some kind of investing vehicle. If that sounds like too much money to you, break it down into more manageable monthly increments of $250. Each month when you're paying your bills, write out a $250 check to your mutual fund or money market account. The key is to start doing this at as early an age as possible so that the money you put aside will keep compounding, with your interest earning interest. The earlier you start putting away ten percent before taxes, the better chance you have of meeting your future investing goals. To learn more about how to invest, subscribe to our FREE investment lesson of the day service. Just visit our website by clicking on this link: http://moneyXperts.com/cgi-local/pl/pl.cgi?wwl We also offer free investor news, an investment of the day service, as well as a personal finance newsletter. Here's her experience with Freeskills.com: I needed a little refresher on using databases. It's been years since I've used a database (Paradox to my recollection), let alone programmed dynamic web pages with one. No problem I thought, there must be an online course somewhere. The wonderful thing about the World Wide Web is that it offers tremendous opportunities to learn. Time limitations were tight and so were budget limitations. Off I went to www.worldwidelearn.com and stumbled across a link to freeskills.com. FreeSkills.com does exactly what it says it does. It offers free online courses. I thought this might be a hook -- in truth I was expecting there to be a handfull of free courses complemented by paid courses. I was skeptical at first, thinking that maybe the "curriculum" would be very limited. Lo and behold, there's so many courses offered for free here that I could be (and I'm sure I will be) busy learning all year long. I immediately launched in Access 2000, Introduction. First of all, sincere thanks to James D.M. Minter, Fiona Ward, Jane Cooper, James Pengelly and Jeremy Dean for developing an course that followed a logical progression and was easy to follow. The course is only available in a PDF format and is complemented with a zip file of exercises. The PDF file allows FreeSkills.com to maintain and protect the copyright of the course. Don't expect to be able to print out the course material, this option is disabled from your browser and also from the PDF file. Given that these courses are provided for free, I think this is reasonable. I have the benefit of a DSL connection so I can say that I worked through the course quickly and with little downside. I found the placement of the exercises to be timely as well. In the overall schema of databases, it is important to grasp one concept before moving on to another. A couple of things to note. The Table of Contents drives the whole course. Navigation is done with the Table of Contents button -- you either advance or retreat or click on a specific hyperlink. One thing that's a little tricky is that each one of the segments seems to be its own PDF file -- you need to look at the bottom of the screen to figure out if you need to advance within the Reader, or if you need to advance from the Table of Contents. I also have the advantage of owning two computers. I was able to read the instructions on one while simulating the steps and exercises on another. I think it would be very hard to switch back and forth to work with the software while reading the course material. All in all there are 158 segments to the course. I accomplished this quite easily over the course of a weekend, but then again, the material really was more of a refresher. Access 2000, Introduction definitely laid the foundation for Access, 2000. I'm happy to say that I'm three quarters of the way through this next course. I definitely plan to go on to Access Professional as well as some of the NT technical courses. All in all I would give my first shot with freeskills.com a 5 out of 5!
