What's New!
Well, the Earthwatch expedition to Kenya was fantastic and exceeded all my expectations. The scenery was beautiful, the people warm and gracious, and we saw between 20 and 80 elephants every day. And I have to tell you it was rather refreshing to get away from the noise of everyday life - no phone, no television, no radio, no computer, no electricity! I'm still in the process of sorting through the 450 or so photographs and once organized, I'll share the highlights of the trip with you in an online photo journal. I should have that ready for the next issue of the newsletter. If you've ever thought of taking some type of volunteer or learning vacation, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend an Earthwatch expedition - you can browse through all their offerings here: http://www.earthwatch.org.

Education and Training Systems - Competitiveness in the Knowledge Economy
November 20-21, 2001 - Amsterdam
This event aims to help educational providers, both public and private, with
their strategic thinking about future skills requirements and needs of
learners. It will explain the potential use of networked technology and how
to assess and maximise return on investment in training. It will
demonstrate opportunities for collaboration and competition between the
traditional and new providers in education and training, and explore the use
of public-private partnerships.
Presentations will be made by the European Commission, leading European
organisations such as Cedefop, Forfas, IBM, Thinq and providers such as Open
University, University of Leeds.
Attendees from both traditional and new educational and training providers
should attend as well as policy makers, corporate training departments,
business-education partnerships, application software providers and so on.
